Major Changes in Life from the Second Chance Program

"Ten years ago I aimlessly sold drugs and made errors that I thought would never cause me trouble. In 1992 my father was shot to death in front of my mother, brothers and sisters. Later in life I was shot in the back (which almost caused my death) while being apprehended. While recovering in the hospital I thought about leaving the prison and avenging those who hurt me. I thought nothing could change my mind. Two and a half years ago I began the Second Chance Program.

Little by little I realized how terrible my childhood was as I was surrounded by drugs and violence. I know today about ethics and morals and what rehabilitation is. Although a person may spend 20 years or more being a criminal, with the steps of this program I have learned what I could not assimilate in school. I hope Governments will make this program a reality for the world. Now I see a promising life. I no longer think about my past. I now want to help other people to overcome the addiction to drugs leaving them free. If this program were in other prisons, we could achieve these wins for everyone."

"I received consecutive gains throughout my advance through the program. I also did a technical course of work clearing techniques which I use in my staff position. Now that I am rehabilitated I continue to improve myself. I feel happy with myself & I feel much pleasure in helping my companions so more & more people can get off drugs. I want to help no only the addicts of this prison, but of all the prisons in Mexico, because it is their purpose to rehabilitate criminals. Regaining Morals with the Second Chance Program

"This remarkable technology was able to change my life when i thought I had lost everything. I began to use drugs at the age of 16 and used all types for 20 years. I destroyed my family and everything around me. Inside that circle of bad habits there are no moral principles. I was so lost, I no longer wanted to live. God gave me the strength to enter the Second Chance Program. I now realize I am a person that can help others in this world. And all the youth that suffer from drugs can be helped by me. I would like to be in front of you so I can tell you all this program has given me. If I am not able to stand in front of you, you will hear about me in the near future. My purpose is to manage a center for juvenile rehabilitation. I will also present seminars in schools about ethics. Being without ethics is the main cause of prostitution and violence. Inmate Gets Rehabilitated and Wants to Help Others With the Second Chance Program

"I am far away from drugs now and I have definitely regained my ability. I used drugs for twenty six years. I started using drugs at the age of ten. The drugs ranged from inhalants to alcohol and everything in between. I entered the program weighing 48 kilos. I was invited into this program for rehabilitation and accepted only because I felt the program could temporarily alleviate my withdrawal pain until I could get more drugs. But thanks to the help I received from the staff, I remained in the program and drug free. Today I am part of the staff and continue my rehabilitation and growth in becoming an ethical person. I got help from this group and I want to help others in this group. I have awakened from a negative fantasy in which I used to live. I now look at everything clearly. This is definitely the road I choose and the way to happiness. What I have learned and the positive changes I have made, should be made available in all prisons."
